The benefit of bespoke business cards

Think about the last time you handed out your business card?

Yesterday, last week, last month, or perhaps never. Too many businesses have abandoned the importance of business cards in their marketing efforts. Mostly because they’re too busy with other marketing ideas that they thought would give them better market exposure. But are these new methods really as good as the tried and tested business card for winning new business?

Just think about the customers you lose by failing to give your business card out. It’s likely that the person you handed out your card to, is not an immediate customer, but he could always be a future one! Better yet, someone in that person’s network might need your products or services today. For decades, businesses have trusted business cards to introduce them to the public. Though old and traditional, business cards are still seen as one of the most essential materials to include in a marketing campaign.

Using design templates vs. bespoke business cards
There’s a lot of template solutions around today that offer free generic designs, the trouble with this type of card is that your competition could be using the exact same card, and as individual business owners we should be trying to create a unique difference as to why someone should use our products or services over someone else’s and your card should be the one thing that sets you apart from your competitors not makes you look the same!

The good news is business cards can be designed to meet the modern and innovative look business owners want today. There’s actually several ways you can make a plain, traditional card look cool, modern, and enticing:
You could consider printing plastic or magnetic cards, one thing that has come back into fashion is thick debossed business cards, which often use two or even three separate cards that are stuck together to add thickness.

A customised business card is ideal to small and startup businesses for several reasons: It gets you noticed in a crowded market. There’s a reason why businesses make their business cards as appealing as they can, and that’s to get noticed.
If you cannot impress your prospects in person, then let your impressive card do it for you. They’re more likely to be kept. When people receive cards that are unusual and striking, they’re likely to keep them.

You could consider investing in plastic or heavy debossed cards which are likely to last for a long time. Similarly, people will see you as reliable and solid with these types of cards.

Use your business cards in non-traditional ways. For example, you can stick them on catalogues, wine bottles or anywhere your target clients are. This allows you to get the exposure you want in a unique and striking manner.

What’s important is to determine what kind of business card design will suit your business.
Ask yourself: would this design give people the image you want them to have of you?
For instance, if you’re a firm of solicitors serious about your work, you cannot design your business card in a funky way. Such design would be utterly inappropriate to the impression you want to portray. Conversely, if you’re good-humoured or weirdly inclined in a crazy fashion sense, then you owe it to yourself to produce a creative, colourful, and unforgettable business card. Keep in mind that you’re going to carry your business card around with you, so be sure to make them handy and compact.

Work on your own cool and trendy business cards today and make meeting people more fun and exciting. Or get a creative graphic designer (I hear First Image are very good!) to create something unique for you.
